Ongoing in the UI Design track at Mobera Conference, we are happy to introduce Ondrej Prostredník as our speaker! His presentation with named „Carpe praesenti: Seize the (mobile) moment” will help you to understand the principles of designing for mobile devices through the context.

Up until now, we did not have the need to develop an understanding of the context in which users experience our applications or websites. Than came mobile, and changed everything. The experiences we create are consumed anywhere and everywhere. Each and every use is a different mobile moment.

Me

Ondrej is a promoter of user centered design, and usability research as well as applying the lean startup methodology to the field of user experience. The turbulent Monday – registration to Mobera online again

August 8 was not the black day only for financial markets according to the latest news but also for our registration to Mobera conference. We are running our event management system Takeplace on Amazon EC2 cloud with absolute satisfaction. Unfortunately, during the yesterday’s night a strong lightning took offline server utility of Amazon and Microsoft in Dublin, Ireland.

Lightning15

Lighting strike hit a transformer from a utility provider to one of our Availability Zones in Dublin, sparking an explosion and fire. Normally, upon dropping the utility power provided by the transformer, electrical load would be seamlessly picked up by backup generators. The transient electric deviation caused by the explosion was large enough that it propagated to a portion of the phase control system that synchronizes the backup generator plant, disabling some of them.”, Amazon support said.

Most servers had to be power on manually so estimated time of being back online various from 24 to 48 hours (up to Tuesday night, August 9) according to Amazon.

However, we did not want to wait till Amazon would do their job and we have started our own backup plan immediately after the accident to bring the Takeplace and Mobera registration back online as soon as possible. We transited to another servers and Amazon zones, did some extra redundancy and enhanced our computational capacity.

Now we are happy that every our system runs normally after only 12 hours of being offline and we are so sorry for a one day inconvenience during the unplanned server maintenance. Please continue with your interest in Mobera registration and enjoy all benefits the conference offers.

We are looking forward to seeing you at Mobera.
